The Diploma Programme

What the IB online class introduces

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) is a two-year pre-university course, usually for students aged 16 to 19. Students choose six subjects from six groups and complete the DP core: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).

SprintMind’s IB Online Class is for students living in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Lessons are live and in a small group. They are placed after school on the shared UTC+8 clock used in both places. SprintMind’s centre is in Scarborough, Toronto, so these hours fall in the Toronto morning.

Group 2

French is part of this introduction

In Group 2, Language Acquisition, the pathway includes French B at Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL), and French ab initio for beginners. For many families in Hong Kong and the mainland, French is the second language that universities in Canada, Europe, and IB World Schools look for.

How the IB Diploma is organised

This page introduces the Diploma structure. French in Group 2 is included in every language version. Other subjects are confirmed with the family after a placement conversation. This demo does not list fees or a fixed timetable.

Group 1 · Studies in language and literature

Language A. Students study literature, or language and literature, in a language they know well.

Français

Group 2 · Language acquisition

French lives here. The online class introduces French B (SL and HL) and French ab initio. Ab initio starts from the beginning; French B is for students who already have a foundation.

Group 3 · Individuals and societies

Subjects such as history, economics, and business management. The exact subject is chosen with the family.

Group 4 · Sciences

Biology, chemistry, physics, and related sciences, taken at SL or HL.

Group 5 · Mathematics

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, or Applications and Interpretation, at SL or HL.

Group 6 · The arts

Visual arts, music, or another arts subject. Students may also take a second subject from Groups 1 to 5 instead.

The core

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and CAS sit beside the six subjects. They are part of the Diploma, not an extra.

How a class runs

Three steps, then a timetable

01

Placement conversation

Current school, languages already studied, and the universities the family has in mind. French ab initio and French B are separated here.

02

Live online class

Small-group teaching after school in Hong Kong and Mainland China. This is a live class, not a set of recordings.

03

French, inside the Diploma map

Group 2 French is explained in the same introduction as TOK, the Extended Essay, and CAS, so the language is not taught as a standalone extra.

FAQ

Questions about the IB online class

Who can join?

Students living in Hong Kong or Mainland China, usually aged 16 to 19, who are starting the IB Diploma or already in it. Families comparing the Diploma with HKDSE can begin with a placement conversation.

Why is the IB introduction also in French?

French is part of the introduction for this class, not a fourth menu language. Group 2 includes French B and French ab initio, so the French text stays on the English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese pages.

What is the difference between French B and French ab initio?

French ab initio starts from the beginning. French B is for students who already have a foundation, and it can be taken at Standard Level or Higher Level.

Is the class live?

Yes. It is a small-group live class. It is not a set of recordings. The exact timetable is confirmed when a family writes through the contact page.

What time are the classes?

Hong Kong and Mainland China both use UTC+8 all year. Classes sit after school on that clock. That is morning in Scarborough, Toronto, where SprintMind teaches.

Are fees listed on this page?

No. This page introduces the class. Fees and the rest of the subject list are confirmed with the family after a placement conversation.
